History
| Our great grandfather, John Holmes Sherard, Sr. left Livingston, Alabama in January
1874 with six mule wagons, four ox wagons and 50 head of cattle. He settled in a jungle
area, which is now known as Sherard, Mississippi. After clearing the land and raising
cotton for a while, Father Sherard decided that due to the inconsistency of the cotton
crop he needed a second crop to supplement his familys income. He selected Pecans
and began planting in 1889. These trees were planted in the rich flood plains of the
Mississippi River which have the deepest, richest top soil brought down from the mid-west
by the river.
The Sherard family has cared for and nurtured these trees and farm lands for over one
hundred and twenty five years. John Holmes Sherard V is the present President and General
manager. He manages the Plantation today with the knowledge and skills learned from his
dad that were passed down through five generations.
